VFILES is one of the most talked-about shows on the New York Fashion Week schedule and through their support of the new breed of emerging talent, the company has plenty in common with our values here at Mastered. Each season, a handful of new names in fashion are hand-picked by VFILES to present during their headline-making runway show. And, each season, a panel of big-name mentors are on hand to guide these budding designers through the process – think Naomi Campbell, Young Thug, Jerry Lorenzo and Pat McGrath, to name just a few.
This season, those mentors were joined by Wade Lee; super-talented alumnus from our 2015 hair program. Wade was involved from day one, helping lead hairstylist Sonny Molina bring to life his concepts, as well as passing on insight garnered from his time on our program with Sam McKnight.
Wade was also on hand to manage the hair team backstage – which for a second year running, was recruited from Mastered alumni. Half of the assistants on the team had completed Hair: Mastered, making for a tight-knit squad that truly understood the time pressures and rigorous processes required backstage.
Also repping Mastered backstage was Soo Park, who completed Makeup: Mastered. Soo was makeup lead for the show, a role which saw him create and execute a series of looks to work for each designer’s specific collection. Soo briefed and led a team of twenty; half of which were his fellow classmates from the Val Garland program.
As always, the show attracted some serious press, with Vogue, W and cThe New York Times amongst the titles covering the looks.
Mastered is proud of all of our artists who worked backstage at the show and delighted that our programs have provided such an exciting and talked-about partnership. Here’s to VFILES 2017!
