Diana Springall is one of Britain’s leading textile artists and in this course you will discover her unique design process and learn how to devise and stitch your own bespoke creations. The first 100 students to enrol will receive a signed copy of her book: five of those will be selected to take a personal embroidery masterclass with Diana in her UK studio.
Creating your own patterns and motifs can be difficult, but in this course Diana guides you through three ways of turning a blank piece of paper into a design created entirely by you. She covers key design principles with practical exercises and techniques, then shows you how to turn that design into a stunning piece of embroidery.
This course is perfect for anyone who’s ever struggled with inventing their own designs and wants to make accessories, art and other products that are entirely devised by them. While the focus is on embroidery, the skills you’ll learn can be translated to any medium, whether you’re designing and making jewelry, hats or homewares.

Introducing Diana Spingall
One of Britain's leading embroidery experts
Diana Springall’s CV is ridiculously impressive. She’s a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, as well as a former chairman of both The Embroiderers' Guild and The Society of Designer Craftsmen. She’s taught and lectured everywhere from the V&A to Goldsmiths and has five embroidery books to her name. Her work appears in public collections and private houses across the world and still, in her 70s, she continues to accept commissions.
This is not her first experience teaching on film: back in 1980 she starred in a 10-part BBC2 series, Embroidery.
